There's a new encyclopedia out called Conservapedia, that is supposed to combat the 'liberal bias' prevalent in Wikipedia articles.
Here is a quote from the entry on Liberals:
A liberal (also leftist) is someone who rejects logical and biblical standards, often for self-centered reasons. There are no coherent liberal standards; often a liberal is merely someone who craves attention, and who uses many words to say nothing. Liberalism began as a movement for individual liberties, but today is increasingly statist, and in Europe even socialistic.
Here is a quote from the entry on Conservatives:
A conservative adheres to principles of limited government, personal responsibility and moral values, agreeing with George Washington's Farewell Address that "religion and morality are indispensable supports" to political prosperity.[1][2] Former President Ronald Reagan said: The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom . . . [3]
The sine qua non of a conservative is someone who rises above his personal self-interest and promotes moral and economic values beneficial to all, rather than to themselves as liberals promote. Alternatively, a conservative is willing to learn and advocate the insights of economics and the morality of the Bible for the benefit of all.
I might also add that it says that the gay rights movement is trying to advance the Homosexual agenda, it says that the Tea Partiers were grassroots and self-organizing. It criticizes Obama and Bill Clinton in their respective articles and points the fnger at liberals for not questioning them enough while the article on Reagan does not mention AIDS. This is quite interesting, somewhat hilarious--and I predict the website will soon be destroyed for its blatant disregard for what an an Encyclopedia should be. The hateful and ignorant founder is the son of a hateful and ignorant anti-feminist activist from the 1970's. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
I've got to go to bed, but I shall further investigate this at another time.
This short video, in addition to being pretty funny, reveals how the set of emails dubbed "Climategate" take scientists out of context, and call them liars for discussing the scientific method.
I think it is funny that while Climategate claims to call people out for ignoring scientific 'facts' in the name of politics, The publicity around the scandal is the same thing. Climategate adherents are using this instance to assert that "global warming has been debunked." Really? Because something is exaggerated or discussed in a way that casts doubt, it is simply not true. Awesome.
A Newsweek article discussed the issue of silencing dissenters: "Take the two papers by climate skeptics that triggered that "redefine the peer-reviewed literature" e-mail. Both were cited and discussed in the IPCC report—and have now been shown to be riddled with errors." So the people being 'silenced' were not making valid claims. Hmm.
The article concluded well, so I will leave the last word to them,"science worked as it should, good research crowding out bad." And what is wrong with that?
It is strange to me that is capitalism becomes more and more of a global phenomenon, capital mobility seems to be increasing while labor mobility is decreasing. The prevalent free market ideology has led to freer capital, but not to freer movement of labor. The United States is a country that avidly pursues deregulation of corporate business practices in order to make money flow quickly to support our standard of living, but is also one that pours billions of dollars of federal money into militarizing the border. Why, in a globalized marketplace, do we want to restrict labor and let capital flow? Who does this kind of system benefit? One of the avenues by which this kind of logic permeates is through the use of propaganda. There's a myth or so floating around out there about undocumented immigrants. Here is one:
1) Undocumented immigrants do not pay Social Security. Actually, according to the Social Security administration, and to the National Immigration Law Center, undocumented immigrant workers contribute $6-$7 billion dollars a year to social security funds using fraudulent numbers. This is money that keeps our social security system afloat, and is money that the workers never get back, as they cannot collect social security from fake numbers.
Additionally, in the cases that they do not pay, it is often because the employer does not pay. He chooses to use undocumented workers, and is often allowed to do so because of the "employer sanctioning" part of the Immigration Reform and Control Act that gives employers the pretext for exploitation.
There are many fallacies about undocumented workers, who have moved here by the forces of the market place that we so love to advocate. This was only one.
The latest chapter of fear mongering. I think they got San Fran and New York all wrong. As a Californian, found this offensive. They did not take into account that the civic area is near the worst part of town, and they outright lied about the Wharf area. Additionally, you can make any city look bad if you only interview the drug addicts. They also said that Central Park was not as dangerous at night as San Francisco. Are you from C.A? What do you think of this?
Hey! Rhiannon here. I love cooking, cleaning, learning, reading, and relaxing with friends. I'm a junior at UC Santa Cruz studying history and economics. Though serious about my academic endeavors, I love to have a good time. I joined xanga to enjoy and explore some of my non-school related hobbies. I want to blog about food, makeup, cleaning products, emotions, decorating, friends, random observations, my stream of thought rather than history or economics. I might slip up on that once in a while. Feel free to read and give feedback..no muerdo. Thanks! - Rhiannon
